Polk and Dallas Counties have experienced 7 and 9 flood-related Presidential Disaster Declarations, respectively. Together, these counties have incurred $1.49 billion in direct property damages from these events. To address the growing risk of floods, Clive and the Walnut Creek Watershed Management Authority partnered with Army Corps of Engineers, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Strategic Alliance for Risk Reduction (STARR II), and Stantec for a Flood Loss Avoidance Analysis for Walnut Creek completed in March 2019.  The analysis resulted in a Mitigation Benefits Estimator report, which is a structure-specific risk assessment that evaluates risk on a large-scale. The Mitigation Benefits Estimator goal is to provide a greater understanding of the watershed-wide flood risk and financial resources necessary to complete mitigation projects across the Walnut Creek Watershed.
