Clive Aquatic Center Will Not Open in 2020; Clive Festival Cancelled

After careful evaluation of the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Clive has decided to cancel the Clive Aquatic Center 2020 summer season and Clive Festival. The City Council and staff discussed this possibility at the May 14 Clive City Council meeting.

The Clive Aquatic Center annual season typically starts Memorial Day weekend and closes mid-August.  If public health conditions and directives from state leaders change by early summer, the City may offer limited swimming lessons in July.  An announcement regarding swimming lessons will be made by mid-June.  All previously purchased swimming passes will be refunded starting on Tuesday, May 19.

The Clive Festival was scheduled for July 17-18, 2020.  While this year’s event has been canceled, the City is still planning to have a fireworks celebration on the evening of Friday, July 17, 2020.  More details about the Clive Festival and the fireworks show can be found at

“Public health and safety have always been, and always will be, our top priority,” said Clive Leisure Services Director Richard Brown.  “We have the responsibility to provide safe experiences for our patrons, volunteers, staff, sponsors, vendors, entertainers, and our entire community.  Clive is dedicated to supporting healthy life experiences through quality parks and recreation opportunities and we will continue connecting with our community in new and inventive ways this summer.”

Clive thanks all those that were part of the early planning for the Clive Aquatic Center season and Clive Festival.  The City looks forward to opening the Aquatic Center next summer and to celebrating at the next Clive Festival now scheduled for July 16-17, 2021.
