Art Along the Trail - 2013 Exhibit Starting in May!
Exhibition Overview
Art Along the Trail is a temporary outdoor exhibit, displayed along Clive’s landmark feature, the Greenbelt Park and Trail system, from May through October each year, with 2013 being the second year of the exhibition. The art pieces will be displayed in highly visible sites along the Greenbelt, depicted by this map. Works are selected by an Art Along the Trail Selection Panel comprised of two members of the City’s Park Board, two members of the Public Art Commission, one City council member, one Clive resident or Clive business owner representative from the Chamber of Commerce, and one member of the local art community.
The Clive Public Art Program was established by the City Council in December 2007. The Public Arts Advisory Commission was established at that time to oversee the operations of the public art program. As part of the City’s commitment to enhance the ‘Distinct by Nature’ character of Clive with the addition of art in public places, the City Council adopted direct appropriation funding for public art. Since approval of the Master Plan, the City has awarded three commissions to artists to create artwork. The Art Along the Trail exhibition will continue the City’s efforts to promote aesthetic excellence and enhance the artistic vitality of Clive.
The City of Clive would like to congratulate James Bearden for having "Paths Unite" selected as the winner of the people's choice award from the 2012 exhibit. On September 6, 2012 the City Council approved the purchase of "Paths Unite" and it has been added to the City's permanent public art collection. Please click here to see photos of "Paths Unite".
The Public Arts Advisory Commission is excited to continue this annual art exhibit into 2013 thanks to a Cultural Enrichment grant from Bravo of Greater Des Moines. Pictures and location of the 2013 exhibited pieces are below. We encourage citizens and trail users to let us know what is their favorite art piece in the exhibit. Later this year the Public Arts Advisory Commission will evaluate the two pieces receiving the highest number of votes and recommend purchase of one of those works of art to the City Council for addition to the City's public art collection.
