New Fire/EMS Training Facility
Posted: Friday, January 29, 2010
The Cities of Clive, Urbandale and Windsor Heights are proud to announce the completion of our state of the art multi-story fire and emergency response training facility. This project has been a collaborative effort which began over three years ago.
This facility will allow our firefighter?s to learn, improve, and maintain their firefighting skills under live fire conditions. The facility is comprised of three sections: a burn annex, two-story residential, and a four-story tower.
The burn annex consists of a large single burn room with temperature monitoring equipment to ensure safety. The training fires will use normal wood combustibles as fuel to help train individuals on fire behavior and extinguishment. The burn annex is also equipped with sprinkler heads for public demonstrations.
The residential section is a two-story building simulating many of the homes in the area. This section will allow firefighters to perform coordinated training evolutions involving fire attack, search & rescue, along with ventilation. A balcony has been designed into the training facility to allow for apartment style rescues as this type of occupancy is common in Clive.
The tower section is designed to simulate many of the large businesses in our communities and will assist in training firefighters for multi-story fires. The tower portion will allow firefighters access to the roof to perform rope rescue and confined space training. All sections will allow training on firefighter rescue and survival techniques.
This structure is designed for continuous firefighter training and constructed by a nationally respected company that specializes in this type of facility.
