CITY MANAGER

The City of Clive, Iowa, (population 17,506) http://www.cityofclive.com/a full-service community in central Iowa, is accepting applications for the position of City Manager. Minimum hiring range starting salary of $150,000 DOQ.

The City of Clive is one of the western suburbs of the Des Moines metro area and is conveniently located at the intersection of Interstates 80 and 35. Throughout its rapid growth, it has enjoyed strong neighborhoods that include a variety of housing, lifestyles, excellent schools and greenbelt trail system. Clive’s bond rating was recently upgraded by Moody’s to AAA, reflecting its strong overall budget position, financial management and healthy reserve fund. According to the 2015 special census, the City is home to 17,506 residents that enjoy a high quality of life, exceptional services and amenities. Clive was incorporated in 1956 and over the years has grown into a thriving community with a pro-business attitude, by encouraging sustainable economic development and entrepreneurship.

The City Manager is responsible for preparation of the budget, oversight of the daily operations and managing the City staff. The City has a workforce of 114 full-time plus part-time personnel. The new City Manager will find a skilled and experienced staff that is very team oriented. The current City Manager is retiring after 21 years in the position.

  • Master’s Degree in Public Administration, Political Science, or related field.
  • Five years of responsible management experience in municipal government including, but not limited to: city manager/administrator, assistant city manager/administrator, finance director, or department head.

Swim Lesson Instructor

The Clive Aquatic Center is looking for individuals who are energetic and enjoy teaching aquatic skills.  A Swim Lesson Instructor is responsible for teaching class participants various aquatic skills and strokes, ensuring safety of all program participants, prepare lesson plans and submitting class records for assigned levels, and attending all trainings and meetings.

Applicants must be at least 16 years old and must enjoy aquatic recreation and/or teaching youth in an aquatic class setting.

Current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification is recommended, however not required.  Minimum entry wage is $10.25 per hour for those certified in WSI and $9.00 without WSI certification.  Applicants are welcome to call 515-867-5090 for a list of upcoming Water Safety Instructor trainings within the surrounding Des Moines area if WSI certification or re-certification is needed.

Swim Lesson Instructor Aides

The Clive Aquatic Center is looking for individuals who are energetic and interested in teaching aquatic skills to youth, but are still developing their leadership skills.  Instructor Aides are responsible for assisting the instructors who are teaching class participants various aquatic skills and strokes while ensuring safety of all program participants.

Applicants need to be at least 16 years old and have a passion in aquatic recreation and/or teaching youth in an aquatic class setting.  Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, and First Aid certification is recommended, but not required.  Minimum entry wage for this position is $9.00 per hour.

Recreation Program Leaders

This position organizes activities, crafts, field trips, and guest speakers for the Sport and Nature programs, youth tee-Ball, youth soccer, and the sports camp programs.  Developing lesson plans, providing first aid, and purchasing supplies for the programs are part of the duties along with scheduling and directing assistants and volunteers.  Leaders report to the Recreation Manager or Coordinator.  Must be able to work and communicate well with children and parents.  Also helps schedule staff and volunteers. 

Applicants must be at least 16 years old.  Work experience in recreation facilities and programs is a plus, but not required.  Staring wage for this position is $9.75-$10.95 per hour.

Recreation Program Assistants

The Recreation Program Assistant helps the Recreation Leader with making samples of the crafts for the day, assisting in activity plans, supervising kids, and providing first aid.

Applicants must be at least 16 years old.  Any work in recreation facilities and programs is a plus, but not required.  Starting wage for this position is $8.75-$9.90 per hour depending on qualifications.

Park Maintenance – 40 hours per week

Park Maintenance #1 Approximately 3 months $10.75-$11.87/Hour

Park Maintenance # 2 Approximately 6-8 months $12.25-$13.52/Hour

This position requires applicants to be at least 18 years of age and the ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions.  Job duties include, but are not limited to, mowing the parks, cleaning shelters and restrooms, dragging and lining softball fields, building and grounds maintenance, landscaping, and other general labor.  Hours are 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday with some weekend overtime work depending on park events. Candidates for hire must successfully pass a background check and possess a valid driver’s license with a good record.
