GIS Intern

The Clive Community Development Department seeks a GIS Intern for the summer of 2016. This position offers valuable exposure to a variety of GIS, utility infrastructure management, and planning activities. In this role, the intern will perform various duties that include but are not limited to: preparing, creating and editing GIS data; interpreting site plans and engineering documents; gathering data in the field via GPS systems; developing GIS data utilizing data editing techniques; and exercising critical thinking to accomplish project goals.

The GIS intern position is funded for approximately 40 hours per week during the summer break at a rate of pay of $12.20 per hour. The position also has the ability to be extended into the fall/spring semester if desired.

The ideal candidate will be familiar with basic GIS principles and ESRI GIS software (ArcMap, ArcCatalog, etc); is able to work independently; is a self starter, and a quick learner. Working knowledge of GPS equipment and a basic understanding of utility systems is desirable.

Parks and Recreation Summer Intern

 
The City of Clive, Iowa seeks an individual for the summer 2016 Parks and Recreation Intern.  Clive is one of the fastest growing cities in Iowa and is regarded by many as one of the most desirable areas in the Des Moines metropolitan area.

Duties:
Working directly under the Parks and Recreation Manager and Coordinators, duties will include planning and coordinating recreation programs, administering programs, aquatics operations, administrative duties, daily operations, assist with special events and wellness activities, and opportunity for park maintenance. The position will include a wide range
of activities from Clive’s aquatic facility to youth through adult programming and leagues.

City Requirements:
The ideal candidate will be a student who is currently majoring in Parks and Recreation, Leisure Studies, or related field.  The intern must be sports/activity minded, and possess the ability and desire to work with people of all ages.   The position start date is in May and end date is mid-August with a minimum of 12 weeks and dates are negotiable.

Rate of Pay: $10.50/hour

Leisure Services - Recreation Coordinator

The City of Clive, Iowa is currently taking applications for Recreation Coordinator. This position is a permanent part-time position not to exceed 29 hours per week.

Duties:
Working directly under the Recreation Manager and Leisure Services Director, duties will include operation and management of youth and adult programs, leagues and tournaments. The Clive Parks and Recreation Department offers over 250 programs and leagues throughout the year. Other job functions include: recruitment, training, scheduling of seasonal staff; manage and coordinate concessions; assisting with yearly reports; planning and coordinating recreation programs; administrative duties within the Recreation Division; assist with special events and facility rentals; budget management, and other duties as assigned.

Rate of Pay: $16/Hour

Aquatic Center - Concessions and Admissions

The Clive Aquatic Center is looking for individuals who have great customer service skills and enjoys working with the public.  This position is responsible for checking in patrons at the pool, answer all incoming phone calls and admission questions, preparing and serving food, and handling money at the registers.

Applicants need to be at least 16 years old.  Any work in recreation facilities is a plus, but not required.  Minimum entry wage for this position is $8.25 per hour.  Part time and full time seasonal positions are available.

Aquatic Center - Lifeguard

The Clive Aquatic Center is looking for individuals who are dedicated to aquatic and patron safety.  This position is responsible for the safety of all facility patrons and program participants by constant surveillance, being rescue ready and alert at all times, respond to all emergencies, and attend all orientation and trainings.

Applicants need to be at least 16 years old and must hold current American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR/AED, and First Aid certifications.  Any work in aquatic recreation is a plus, but not required.  Minimum entry wage for this position is $8.92 per hour.  Part time and full time seasonal positions are available.  Applicants are welcome to call 515-867-5090 for a list of upcoming lifeguard trainings within the surrounding Des Moines area if needing lifeguard certification.

Aquatic Center - Swim Lesson Instructor

The Clive Aquatic Center is looking for individuals who are energetic and enjoy teaching aquatic skills.  This position is responsible teaching class participant’s various aquatic skills and strokes, ensuring safety of all program participants, prepare lesson plans and submit class records for assigned levels, and attend all trainings and meetings.

Applicants need to be at least 17 years old and must hold current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification.  Any work in aquatic recreation and/or teaching youth in an aquatic class setting is a plus, but not required.  Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, and First Aid is recommended; however not required.  Minimum entry wage for this position is $10.11 per hour.  Part time and full time seasonal positions are available.  Applicants are welcome to call 515-867-5090 for a list of upcoming Water Safety Instructor trainings within the surrounding Des Moines area if needing WSI certification.

Public Works - Engineering Tech / Senior Engineering Tech

The City of Clive is looking for a highly motivated individual for the position of Engineering Technician/Senior Engineering Technician in the Engineering Division of the Public Works Department. The experience level of the successful applicant will determine whether they are hired as an Engineering Technician or a Senior Engineering Technician.  Clive is a growing community known for providing quality service, its greenbelt and a distinct relationship with nature.  Under general supervision of the Engineering Services Administrator, the position performs technical drafting of complex engineering design to produce plans and specifications for public infrastructure projects included in the City’s Capital Improvements Program (CIP). Typical projects include street, trail, sidewalk and parking lot construction or maintenance, and sanitary sewer, storm sewer and water distribution system upgrades or additions. Work is of some complexity and varies, requiring a working knowledge of the principles, practices, equipment, and materials used in computerized drafting work; and a basic knowledge of geographic information system (GIS) fundamentals.  

Position Requirements – Engineering Technician (Minimum Starting Salary $46,225)

Two years of college level engineering coursework or vocational training in civil drafting including three (3) years of progressively responsible work experience. Click here for a complete job description.

Two years of college level engineering coursework or vocational training in civil drafting including seven (7) years of progressively responsible work experience including two (2) years of work experience in project management of civil municipal design projects.
