Parks Maintenance Supervisor - Facilities

The City of Clive is currently accepting applications for the position of Parks Maintenance Supervisor.  Under general supervision of the Parks Manager, assists with the management and operations of the maintenance of the city parks, trail system and city facilities with an emphasis on facilities and fleet management.  Responsible for the direct supervision, management, coordination, performance and evaluation of fulltime Operations Specialists (OS) and seasonal park workers as assigned.  Assists as requested with Parks Division project planning and annual budgeting requests.  Coordinates and implements required training to meet safety and operational standards. Work with departmental co-workers as needed to accomplish various assignments and activities. Knowledge of parks and public works operations and facilities is required. Performs semi-skilled and skilled labor often involving the operation of light and medium construction equipment. Must possess an above average knowledge of equipment operations and facilities maintenance.

Clive, population 17,506, is a progressive community located on the western side of the Des Moines metropolitan area.  Located at the crossroads of two interstate highways (35 & 80), visibility and convenience are major corporate attributes of the community.  Clive combines urban amenities with first rate school systems, a wide variety of housing options, a safe family environment, and an unsurpassed quality of life.

To be considered, candidates must have the minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) and at least one year of college study in an applicable field of study or equivalent work experience.   Preferred experience includes a two year college degree in applicable field of study. In addition, at least one year of operating light and medium construction equipment or one year in a mechanical position.

Applicants must have a valid Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with air brakes and a good driving record for the past three years.   The successful candidate will be required to establish residency within 30 miles which takes less than 30 minutes to drive to the Parks Maintenance Facility within the first three months of employment.  Position responsibilities include being generally available for off-hour emergencies and/or work assignments.  Ability to pass ongoing random alcohol and drug testing. Recreation Coordinator

The City of Clive, Iowa seeks an individual for the position of Recreation Coordinator.  Clive is one of the fastest growing cities in Iowa and is regarded by many as one of the most desirable areas in the Des Moines metropolitan area. 

Duties: 
Working directly under the Recreation Manager and Leisure Services Director, duties will include planning and coordinating recreation programs for people of all ages with an emphasis on youth and adult sports leagues, clinics, and tournaments; hires, trains, supervises and manages seasonal and part time staff; administrative duties within the Recreation Division; assist with special events and facility rentals; budget management recreation programming, and other duties as assigned.  

Education, Training and Experience:
Education Required:  Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation or related field of study. 

Experience Required:  Minimum of three years of increasingly responsible experience planning and coordinating recreational activities. 

Special Requirements:

  1. Current Certification in First Aid/CPR or ability to obtain within the first six months of employment.

  2. Safe Serve Certification within first six months of employment. 

Rate of Pay:
Minimum starting salary $60650/Year with excellent Benefit Package.

Recreation Concessions and Admissions

Clive Parks and Recreation is looking for individuals who have great customer service skills and enjoy working with the public.  This position is responsible for checking in patrons at the Aquatic Center, answer all incoming phone calls and admission questions, preparing and serving food and handling money at the registers. 

Other opportunities may include working at Clive’s Campbell Park Concession Stand during leagues and tournaments serving food, handling money and recording scores during nights and weekends. 

Applicants need to be at least 16 years old (18 year olds preferred for Campbell Park).  Any work in recreation facilities is a plus, but not required.  Staring wage for this position is $8.75-$9.50 per hour.

Swim Lesson Instructor

The Clive Aquatic Center is looking for individuals who are energetic and enjoy teaching aquatic skills.  This position is responsible teaching class participant’s various aquatic skills and strokes, ensuring safety of all program participants, prepare lesson plans and submit class records for assigned levels and attend all trainings and meetings.

Applicants need to be at least 16 years old and must enjoy aquatic recreation and/or teaching youth in an aquatic class setting.

Current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification is recommended; however not required.  Applicants are welcome to call 515-867-5090 for a list of upcoming Water Safety Instructor trainings within the surrounding Des Moines area if needing WSI certification.

The Clive Aquatic Center is looking for individuals who are energetic and interested in teaching aquatic skills to youth, but are not ready to lead classes.  This position is responsible for assisting the instructors who are teaching class participants various aquatic skills and strokes while ensuring safety of all program participants. 

Applicants need to be at least 16 years old and has a passion in aquatic recreation and/or teaching youth in an aquatic class setting.  Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, and First Aid is recommended, but not required.

Park Maintenance – 40 hours per week

Park Maintenance #1 Approximately 3 months $10.75-$11.87/Hour

Park Maintenance # 2 Approximately 6-8 months $12.25-$13.52/Hour

This position requires applicants to be at least 18 years of age and the ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions.  Job duties include, but are not limited to, mowing the parks, cleaning shelters and restrooms, dragging and lining softball fields, building and grounds maintenance, landscaping, and other general labor.  Hours are 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday with some weekend overtime work depending on park events. Candidates for hire must successfully pass a background check and possess a valid driver’s license with a good record.
