Public Works Operations Specialist

The City of Clive is currently accepting applications for the position of Operations Specialist in the Public Works department.  This position performs manual labor and semi-skilled and skilled work often involving the operation of light-to-heavy duty construction and maintenance equipment.   

Clive, population of 17,506, is a progressive community located on the western side of the Des Moines metropolitan area.  Clive combines urban amenities with first rate school systems, a wide variety of housing options, a safe family environment and an unsurpassed quality of life.

To be considered, candidates must have a high school degree or equivalent G.E.D. with an additional one year of operating light and medium construction equipment preferred. Other requirements include residency within thirty (30) miles, availability for off-hour emergencies, commercial applicators’ license within thirty days of employment, a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License with air brake endorsement within thirty days of appointment and a good driving record for the past three years.

Starting compensation for an Operations Specialist position is $48,625.  In addition, the City has an excellent benefit package with employer-provided health/dental/vision insurance, pension benefits and an employer matching 401K/457 Plan.

Recreation Program Leaders

This position organizes activities, crafts, field trips, and guest speakers for the Sport and Nature programs, youth tee-Ball, youth soccer, and the sports camp programs.  Developing lesson plans, providing first aid, and purchasing supplies for the programs are part of the duties along with scheduling and directing assistants and volunteers.  Leaders report to the Recreation Manager or Coordinator.  Must be able to work and communicate well with children and parents.  Also helps schedule staff and volunteers. 

Applicants must be at least 16 years old.  Work experience in recreation facilities and programs is a plus, but not required.  Staring wage for this position is $9.75-$10.95 per hour.

Recreation Program Assistants

The Recreation Program Assistant helps the Recreation Leader with making samples of the crafts for the day, assisting in activity plans, supervising kids, and providing first aid.

Applicants must be at least 16 years old.  Any work in recreation facilities and programs is a plus, but not required.  Starting wage for this position is $8.75-$9.90 per hour depending on qualifications.

Park Maintenance – 40 hours per week

Park Maintenance #1 Approximately 3 months $10.75-$11.87/Hour

Park Maintenance # 2 Approximately 6-8 months $12.25-$13.52/Hour

This position requires applicants to be at least 18 years of age and the ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions.  Job duties include, but are not limited to, mowing the parks, cleaning shelters and restrooms, dragging and lining softball fields, building and grounds maintenance, landscaping, and other general labor.  Hours are 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday with some weekend overtime work depending on park events. Candidates for hire must successfully pass a background check and possess a valid driver’s license with a good record.
