The City of Clive is looking for paramedics and firefighter/EMTs who strive to be a part of a great team of emergency providers. The Clive Fire Department provides high quality emergency medical services to its citizens and visitors through aggressive protocols, excellent equipment and a commitment to patient focused care.

Providers work 12 hour shifts as a member of a 6 person crew responding from our headquarters station. Firefighting background and certification is preferred but not required for paramedics. Firefighter applicants must have current EMT and Firefighter I certification.

The City of Clive is currently accepting applications for the position of Accounting Clerk in the City Clerk’s Office.  This position performs accounting functions to ensure that City finances are in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.  Coordinates and performs accounts payable functions and assists in payroll functions as well as assists with all of the functions of the Clerk’s Office as directed. The Accounting Clerk reports directly to the City Clerk. 

Clive population of 17,506, is a progressive community located on the western side of the Des Moines metropolitan area.  Clive combines urban amenities with first rate school systems, a wide variety of housing options, a safe family environment, and an unsurpassed quality of life.

To be considered, candidates must have a high school degree or equivalent G.E.D. supplemented with accounting coursework.  A four year degree in accounting, public administration or business administration, or three years accounting equivalent experience is preferred.  Ideal candidates will have knowledge of the principals and practices of accounting; knowledge of the principals and practices of finance including taxation and revenue management.  Beneficial, will be familiarity with various accepted accounting standards for municipal government operations.

Compensation for the Accounting Clerk position is a minimum of $47,925 depending on qualifications.  In addition, the City has an excellent benefit package with employer-provided health/dental/vision insurance, pension benefits and an employer matching 401K/457 Plan.

GIS Intern - Community Development

The City of Clive, Iowa seeks a GIS Intern for the fall and spring of 2016/2017.  This position offers valuable exposure to a variety of GIS, utility infrastructure management, and planning activities.  In this role, the intern will perform various duties that include but are not limited to: preparing, creating and editing GIS data; interpreting site plans and engineering documents; gathering data in the field via GPS systems; developing GIS data utilizing data editing techniques; and exercising critical thinking to accomplish project goals.

The GIS intern position is funded for approximately 30-40 hours per week during the fall and spring semester at a rate of pay of $12.20 per hour. The position also has the ability to be extended into the summer break if desired.

The ideal candidate will be familiar with basic GIS principles and ESRI GIS software (ArcMap, ArcCatalog, etc); is able to work independently; is a self starter, and a quick learner.  Working knowledge of GPS equipment and a basic understanding of utility systems is desirable.

Public Works - Engineering Technician / Senior Engineering Technician

The City of Clive is looking for a highly motivated individual for the position of Engineering Technician/Senior Engineering Technician in the Engineering Division of the Public Works Department. The experience level of the successful applicant will determine whether they are hired as an Engineering Technician or a Senior Engineering Technician.  Clive is a growing community known for providing quality service, its greenbelt and a distinct relationship with nature.  Under general supervision of the Engineering Services Administrator, the position performs technical drafting of complex engineering design to produce plans and specifications for public infrastructure projects included in the City’s Capital Improvements Program (CIP). Typical projects include street, trail, sidewalk and parking lot construction or maintenance, and sanitary sewer, storm sewer and water distribution system upgrades or additions. Work is of some complexity and varies, requiring a working knowledge of the principles, practices, equipment, and materials used in computerized drafting work; and a basic knowledge of geographic information system (GIS) fundamentals.  

Position Requirements – Engineering Technician (Minimum Starting Salary $46,225)

Two years of college level engineering coursework or vocational training in civil drafting including three (3) years of progressively responsible work experience.  Click here for job description.
