A new program which will help reduce speeding on our city streets is the neighborhood Pace Car program. Similar to Neighborhood Watch, the Pace Car program involves residents taking a pledge to improve traffic safety in their neighborhood by driving the speed limit. Those making the commitment to obey the speed laws are designated as a neighborhood Pace Car. The idea is that if a Pace Car is not speeding, neither are the cars behind it. The police department will provide Pace Car window clings to those residents making the commitment to drive the speed limit. If the majority of residents in a neighborhood make the Pace Car commitment, official signs will be posted in the area designating it as an official Pace Car Neighborhood.
