Neighborhood Watch is a citizen participation program in which residents in a neighborhood become the eyes and ears of the police department. Citizens participating in this program are asked to attend a one time meeting conducted by a member of the police department trained in crime prevention. Citizens are given tips on reducing and preventing crime in their neighborhood as well as information on home security measures. Neighbors are encouraged to appoint a "block captain" who serves as a contact point for the police department. Periodic updates on criminal activity, fraudulent schemes, and traffic safety information are disseminated from the police department to the Neighborhood Watch areas through the "block captain." Most importantly, residents become the eyes and ears of the neighborhood by reporting suspicious activity, parking violations, traffic safety issues, and any other issue the police department should be aware of. Residents are encouraged to report crime or suspicious activity to the WestCom Dispatch center at (515) 222-3321 or 911 for emergencies. For more information on the Clive Neighborhood Watch Program contact Sgt. Vern Lukehart at (515) 278-1312.
