1,000 Books Before Kindergarten
1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is an ongoing reading program to encourage parents and caregivers to read 1,000 books with their children before they enter school. The program is based on research showing that the more children ages 0-5 hear books read to them, the more prepared they will be to learn to read in kindergarten. Parents sign up for the program at the library and receive reading journals to track how many books they and others read to their children. Once certain reading milestones have been reached, the library rewards that accomplishment with a prize. This program is open to any child (baby-preschooler) who is not yet in kindergarten.
Teen Saturday Fun
Teens 10 and older are invited to monthly programming opportunities at the library. Programs are held once a month on Saturday afternoons. Check the calendar or call the library at 515-453-2221 for more information.
