The Department:
The Clive Fire Department is a combination full-time and part-time fire department. Duty shifts are 6 A.M. to 6 P.M. and 6 P. M. to 6 A.M. A typical day shift would have two or three full-time staff and three or four part-times staff for a total of six staff on duty to crew fully crew both an ambulance and a fire engine. The night and all weekend shifts have six part-time staff members in station. Training is conducted on each shift and the first Wednesday night of the month is reserved for mandatory training for all members.

The Clive Fire Department is currently looking for men and women who are willing to invest their time and energy in serving their neighbors in Clive by providing Fire Protection and Emergency Medical Services. Clive Fire is a progressive, innovative provider of Fire Protection, Advance Life Support Ambulance Service and Public Education.
Answering over 1,500 calls for help each year, we respond to calls from everything to fires and fire alarms, car accidents, medical problems, hazard materials spills and many other situations.
If you are a healthy, energetic person with a desire to belong to a group of dedicated individuals helping their community by providing essential emergency services, then the Clive Fire Department is for you!
Opportunities
Once your initial training has been completed and you have demonstrated your commitment to helping your neighbors, the Clive Fire Department encourages you to pursue further levels of training and certifications. All fire fighters are first trained to the national standard of Fire Fighter I. We will provide the opportunities to go further and obtain the levels of Fire Fighter II, Fire Instructor I, II, and Certified Engineer. On the medical side, the Department will pay for the initial EMS training of any member that has completed fire training. With a commitment from you to serve for at least a year after having successfully completed an advanced EMS course and receiving State of Iowa Certification, the Department will pay for you to attend an EMT-I or EMT-P course.
To become a member of the Clive Fire Department team you must:
- Have a strong commitment and desire to help your neighbors and community.
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Live or work within two miles of a Clive Fire Station.
- Have a valid, current Iowa Driver's License.
- Pass a personal interview.
- Pass a medical exam, with drug screen, (at Department expense).
- Pass the Clive Fire Department physical ability test.
- If you desire to be a member of the ambulance team only, in addition to the seven items listed above, you must also be currently certified by the State of Iowa at a minimum level of E.M.T. - B.
Not Just Fire Fighting!
The Clive Fire Department has many opportunities to interact with the citizens of Clive. CPR classes, home safety evaluations, school visits, Fire Prevention Week, and truck visits to summer block parties are just some of the many non-emergency activities and services of the Department. The Clive Firefighters Association sponsors Santa visits and the Easter Egg Hunt. The CFFA works with the Clive Jaycees to provide food at Clive After Five and is an active member in the planning and staging of the annual Clive Festival held during the last weekend in June.
