Metro Home Improvement Program
The City does not have a formal housing authority, but is involved in the Metro Home Improvement Program
which is intended to help eligible homeowners make needed repairs related to basic structural, electrical, mechanical, plumbing and weatherization needs.
The purpose of this program is to preserve the existing affordable housing stock in the cities of Altoona, Ankeny, Clive, Grimes, Johnston, Pleasant Hill, Urbandale, West Des Moines and Windsor Heights. The program provides forgivable loans to homeowners to assist with both substantial and minor rehabilitation by addressing code violations and substandard conditions.
