Code Enforcement
Code Enforcement is a service provided by the City to ensure compliance with City Ordinances. The mission of the Code Enforcement Division is to help provide, promote, and maintain a safe and desirable living and working environment within the City of Clive. The Code Enforcement Officer strives to assist all citizens with maintaining community standards and property values through voluntary compliance. This is accomplished by building relationships with property owners and educating them on city code.
Be a Partner
Code enforcement is a responsibility shared by many City departments and, to be effective and efficient, also needs the cooperation of property owners. The Code Enforcement Officer’s first priority is to help residents achieve voluntary compliance. If you do receive a violation notice, please seek the Code Enforcement Officer’s guidance for correcting the violation. If you suspect a code violation in your neighborhood, please report it to Code Enforcement by calling 223-6220 or filing a complaint online. Once filed online, an email notification will be sent to the Code Enforcement Officer, and the matter will be investigated.
Our Process
Once a complaint is filed, the Code Enforcement Officer visits the site and confirms that a violation is present. If confirmed, a notice will be given to the property owners and a set amount of time is granted to the property owner to correct the violation. Violations must be corrected within this timeframe in order to avoid fines, liens, and/or legal action. If you notice a violation reoccurs after having been corrected, please report the problem again.
Code Tips
Take a look at your property to ensure there are not any hazards or potential violations such as tall grasses and weeds, garbage, junk, illegal signs, snow or ice-packed sidewalks, and inoperable vehicles associated with your property.
