NW 78th Street through NW 73rd Street

  • Recommended to be expanded to a five-lane facility without an interim three-lane facility due to the need to reconstruct the Walnut Creek bridge.
  • The westbound right turn lane at 75th Street should be converted into a through travel lane.
  • An eastbound right turn lane should be added at the 73rd and University Avenue intersection, which would be a joint project with the City of Windsor Heights.
  • A 12” water main would be installed south of the bridge, as well as a 36” storm sewer northwest and southeast of the bridge.
  • The estimated cost of the project is $1,250,000 with possible funding from the Iowa DOT Traffic Safety Improvement Program, Iowa DOT Iowa Clean Air Attainment Program, and SAFETEA.
  • This project is scheduled to begin in 2010.

    • Maintain traffic and business access
    • Phase into two segments:
      • North half of University Boulevard
      • South half of University Boulevard
    • Allow access for side streets.
