University Boulevard -

NW 84th Street through NW 78th Street

  • Recommended that University Boulevard be primarily a three-lane roadway (one through lane in each direction with a two way left turn lane), with future expansion to a five-lane facility.
  • Construct earthen area on south side of roadway within City and railroad right of way to minimize flooding impact.
  • Install large capacity storm sewer in existing ditch, south side of roadway, and provide overflow rout directly south to Walnut Creek
  • Replace 6” water main to an 8” water main and relocate overhead power and gas lines.
  • The estimated cost of this project is $4,000,000 with possible funding coming from the Iowa DOT Traffic Safety Improvement Program, Iowa DOT Iowa Clean Air Attainment Program and SAFETEA.
  • This project is scheduled to begin in 2009.

    • Phase project in two segments:
      • NW 86th Street to businesses east of BP
      • Fawn Engineering/Wittern Group to 75th Street
    • Close road to through traffic during construction
    • Traffic detour plan for residential property owners
    • Allow access for commercial properties
