NW 86th Street & University Boulevard Intersection
through NW 84th Street
The project consists of the following:
- NW 86th Street will be widened in the northbound lane, with a dedicated right turn lane onto University Boulevard.
- The intersection of University Boulevard and NW 86th Street will become three lanes wide to accommodate a right turn lane, left turn lane and a through traffic lane.
- University Boulevard will be widened to three lanes wide with a dedicated turning lane just east of the intersection. This widening will be constructed through NW 84th Street this summer. University Boulevard will continue to be widened during the next two years of the Improvement Project.
- The Greenbelt Trail will also get a trail extension that runs north and south along NW 86th Street. The City will also be doing some major streetscaping work over the next three years including a gateway feature at the intersection in 2009. Sidewalks, crosswalks, benches and much more will be improved over the life of the project.
- These improvements will help to improve the safety of the 30,000 vehicles that use the corridor on a daily basis. The improvements will also provide the businesses and their customers safer access.
- Please keep in mind these transportation projects and improvements are subject to change due to weather or various other extenuating circumstances.
- During the construction season, access roads and detours will be clearly visible by signage and communicated by the City on a regular basis via the local media and this website.
NW 86th Street & Hickman Road
The City of Clive will finish the planned road improvements at NW 86th Street and Hickman Road this summer. The plans include the construction of a new northbound lane from Franklin Avenue north and a right-turn approach at the intersection, the construction of an eastbound Hickman Road right-turn lane onto NW 86th Street and the construction of permanent medians at all quadrants. The projects above constitute approximately eight weeks of work, weather-permitting, which includes approximately five to six weeks of some lane closures and lane narrowing.
The traffic signal installation at the Dahl's intersection, sidewalk installation on the east side of NW 86th Street, the installation of decorative street lighting from Franklin Avenue north to Hickman Road and the construction of gateway monuments and landscaping near Dahl's will begin once road improvements are near completion. The construction of a frontage/access drive at the location formerly occupied by Pizza Hut will also begin when the completion of road improvements is near.
Please keep in mind that these projects, as mentioned before, are subject to change at any time due to weather or other extenuating circumstances.
