Western Suburbs Offer New Way to Experience Public Art

Downloadable app Provides Virtual Tours for Art Lovers

The cities of Clive, Urbandale, and West Des Moines have been offering a temporary art exhibit for the past 6-7 years.  All three communities provide a juried art exhibit that is on display for the community to view and interact with art.  Artists from Iowa and throughout the region are featured.

This year, exhibit visitors will be able to make their art experience more meaningful by simply downloading an app to their phone or tablet.  Each of the three cities have partnered with Otocast to provide a way for art lovers to learn more about the temporary artworks. The Otocast app provides users with a guided audio tour of each art exhibit.  The app provides a map showing the location of the artwork, photos of each piece, and custom artist narratives.

“We thought this was a great way to take the Art Along the Trail program to the next level,” said Leisure Services Director Todd Seaman. “Otocast has helped us further our goal of enhancing the public art experience.”

The Otocast app is available for both Android and Apple iOS.  Art Along the Trail (Clive) and Art on the Campus (West Des Moines) are on display throughout the summer and early fall.  The Art Park (Urbandale) is on display until next spring. The art exhibits are sponsored by the Public Arts Advisory Commission from each community, and financial support from Bravo Greater Des Moines.
