NW 142nd ST Hot Mix Asphalt Resurfacing Project
NW 142nd STREET HOT MIX ASPHALT RESURFACING PROJECT
This pavement rehabilitation project will construct a three-inch thick asphalt overlay of NW 142nd Street between University Avenue and Hawthorn Drive. Six-foot asphalt shoulders will also be constructed as part of the improvements along with curb and sidewalk removal and replacement at intersections, full-depth concrete patching, fixture adjustments and seeding/restoration of disturbed areas. The initial phases of construction will be completed with lane closures and flaggers. Later in construction, the asphalt overlay will need to be placed under a full closure of the corridor. The City of Clive has awarded a contract to Grimes Asphalt & Paving Corporation in the amount of $689,804.90 to complete the proposed improvements. Federal Surface Transportation Funding in the amount of $480,000.00 will also be used to fund the project.
10/28/14 - Shouldering and sidewalk construction within the project limits is now complete. The City’s contractor is expected to return yet this week to seed all areas disturbed by construction. Additional restoration may be required next spring depending on how well the seeded areas establish.
8/21/14 (4:30 pm) - Access for local residents in the Pinnacle Pointe subdivision and on Forest, Elmcrest and D’Avry Courts has been reestablished at Belfry Drive. Please use Brentwood Drive (one block west of NW 142nd Street on University) to Belfry to gain access to the affected area. Use caution as construction workers and vehicles are still present on NW 142nd Street. The entire corridor will reopen overnight once paving further north to Hawthorn Drive is completed.
8/20/14 (9:20 AM) - Asphalt paving on NW 142nd Street has been postponed until tomorrow starting at 8:00 am. The updated weather forecast now shows rain persisting until early afternoon.
8/20/14 (7:55 AM) – Based on current weather conditions, the Contractor has delayed the start of today’s scheduled paving until 11:00 am. Forecasts indicate that conditions should clear by mid-morning and allow for work to proceed by mid-day. Additional information regarding any further weather related delays or postponements will be provided as it becomes available.
8/19/14 (1:20 PM) - The section of NW 142nd Street between University Avenue and Belfry Drive has reopened to local traffic. Please use Brentwood Drive (one block west of NW 142nd Street on University) to Belfry to gain access to the affected area. Vehicles are allowed to exit NW 142nd Street onto University Avenue at this time. The entire corridor will reopen overnight once paving further north to Hawthorn Drive is completed.
8/15/14 - As indicated by message boards on either end of the project , the Contractor has scheduled asphalt resurfacing for next week on Tuesday, August 19th and Wednesday, August 20th. These dates are dependent on weather and may shift to later in the week if rainy conditions persist between now and early next week. Please check back to this website page for any weather related updates.
On the selected dates, NW 142nd Street will be closed for the placement of asphalt. The road will be closed to all traffic and access will not be allowed during this time. Depending on individual schedules, it may be necessary to park on another street away from your home. Work will begin at University Avenue and proceed to the north. The closure area will be minimized as work proceeds and the street will be fully reopened at the end of each day.
8/8/14 - The Contractor is scheduled to be on-site beginning next Monday morning between South Shore Drive and Hawthorn Drive to start full depth patching of the existing street. Traffic on NW 142nd Street will be alternately routed through the work zone by flaggers during the initial stages of construction.
